Slowed + Reverb Maker
The slowed-and-reverb edit takes a track down in tempo and wraps it in a long decay, producing something dreamier and heavier than the original. It is the counterpart to nightcore and one of the most durable styles in short-form audio.
What makes the sound:
- Speed around 85% gives the characteristic drag without smearing transients beyond recognition
- Reverb of 40โ60% with a long size is what turns a slow version into a slowed-and-reverb version โ without it, you just have a slowed song
- Extra pitch drop of one or two semitones adds weight; more than three starts to sound detached from the original
Why 85% and not 60%: stretching too far exposes phase-vocoder artefacts on drums, and the result stops sounding like a slow version of a track and starts sounding broken. Eighty to ninety percent is the range where the edit reads as intentional.
Rendering is deterministic: the same input and settings always produce the same file, so a version you like can be reproduced later for a revision.
Rights note: a slowed edit is a derivative work of the source recording. Decoding, processing, and encoding all run in this browser tab. The file you select is not uploaded, and the rendered audio is not stored on any server.
How It Works
Load a track
Add the song you want to slow down.
Set the speed
Around 85% is the standard slowed edit.
Add the reverb
40โ60% wet with a long size creates the wash.
Render and export
Preview the result, then download WAV or MP3.
Features
Slowed Tempo
Down to 60%, with 85% as the classic setting.
Long Reverb Tail
Up to 80% wet with an adjustable decay size.
Extra Pitch Drop
Up to three semitones lower for a heavier feel.
Reproducible
The same settings always produce the same output.
Why the Reverb Does Most of the Work
Slowing a track down on its own produces something that sounds sluggish but not atmospheric. The reverb is what creates the style: a long decay blurs the sharp edges that slowing down exposes, and fills the extra space that the lower tempo creates between events. Without it, a slowed track often sounds worse than the original rather than transformed.
The size of the reverb matters as much as the amount. A short, dense reverb at 60% wet sounds cluttered; a long decay at 40% wet sounds spacious. When an edit is not working, the first thing to try is a longer reverb size rather than more wet signal.
Artefacts, Level, and Review
Slowing audio exposes phase-vocoder limitations because the algorithm must invent more signal between the original events. Dense percussion suffers most, sustained pads and vocals least. If a render sounds smeared, raising the speed by five percentage points usually fixes it more effectively than any other adjustment.
Reverb and slowing both add energy in different ways, so the output level often needs trimming. Check the processed preview for sustained limiting โ if the limiter is working constantly, the reverb amount is too high for the material.
Every effect here is deterministic: the same file and the same control values produce the same output. That means you can reproduce a result later, but it also means the tool will not guess what you intended โ check a short excerpt before rendering a long file, and keep the original.

Slowed + Reverb Maker โ FAQ
What speed is a slowed and reverb edit?
Around 85%, which is a 15% reduction. Some edits go as low as 70%, but below that phase-vocoder artefacts on percussion become obvious and the track stops sounding deliberate.
How much reverb should I add?
Between 40% and 60% wet for the classic sound. Lower than 30% and the effect is more slowed than reverbed; above 70% the tail starts to mask the vocal line and the mix becomes indistinct.
Should I drop the pitch too?
One or two semitones adds weight without sounding detached. More than three changes the character enough that the result no longer sits in the same key as the original, which matters if you plan to layer them.
What is the difference between slowed + reverb and vaporwave?
Vaporwave is slower still โ around 65% โ with a heavier top-end roll-off and often a chorus drift. Slowed and reverb keeps more of the original's presence and adds space rather than haze.
Can I publish a slowed version of a copyrighted track?
It is a derivative work, so the same rights questions apply as for any remix. Personal listening, classroom use, and public distribution fall under different rules. Check the licence and the platform's policy before uploading.
